現代科技的發展大大地取決於是否能取得合適的單晶,無論是用於雷射,半導體,磁性元件,光學元件,超導,通信還是其他應用。若無法精準地了解單晶生長的科學知識,要生長現今工業應用上的大型單晶是不可能達成的。本課程將著重於單晶生長的基本概念與知識,並重點介紹現代單晶生長技術,包括柴式法,熔鹽法、區域熔煉、布里奇曼法,氣相傳輸生長和水熱法等等。另外低維度單晶,準晶、和人造寶石的相關生長技術也將在課程之中討論。
Modern technological developments depend greatly on the availability of suitable single crystals, whether it is for lasers, semiconductors, magnetic devices, optical devices, superconductivity, telecommunication or other applications. Unless the fundamental science of growing these crystals is understood precisely, it is impossible to grow them as large single crystals to be applied in modern industry. This course highlights the basic concepts and fundamental knowledge of single crystal growth and deals with the contemporary crystal growth techniques that have been adopted, including Czochralski, float zone, flux growth, Bridgman method, vapor transport growth, and hydrothermal methods, etc. The related growth techniques for low-dimensional single crystals, quasicrystals and artificial gemstones will also be discussed.
