This course will cover all gross anatomy, functional anatomy and neurophysiology of female organs; reproductive physiology; health issues during each life stage (adolescence, the childbearing years, the middle years and older age); physical therapy assessment; and physical therapy management. Evidence to support conservative management strategies will be discussed.
Course objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be expected to be able to:
o Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the anatomy, applied anatomy and function of the reproductive system, pelvis and pelvic floor, and urinary tract, including the bladder and its outlet.
o Understand clinical aspects of various gynecological and obstetric conditions
o Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate physical examinations for women with gynecological and obstetric conditions.
o Describe various physical therapy interventions in area of women’s health
o Understand gynecological surgeries and their effect on pelvic floor muscle function.
o Understand the role of a physical therapist in management of gynecological and obstetric disorders
