This course provide a critical examination of the philosophical and theoretical basis for nursing knowledge development. This course will explore the evolution and fundamental assumptions of philosophies of science, social science and nursing science. Students will be able to explore various approaches to knowledge development as dynamic process and the ontological and epistemological implications for the development of nursing knowledge. The goals of this class will focus on the interconnectedness among meta-theoretical perspectives, theoretical thinking, scientific research, and knowledge development in nursing. At the end of this course doctoral students will have natural inquisitiveness and capacity of reasoning as philosophical thinking to synthesize and develop the implications through concept and theory development
