A general purpose of reading is to take in information from the article that someone is reading, as well as to expand the reader's vocabulary and to enhance mastery of the target language. In order to efficiently gather and absorb information (including facts, data, or hypotheses that are scattered over an article) when reading long texts form books or lengthy articles in magazines or periodicals, students need to learn the strategy of skimming to ensure a swift but effective reading. The exercise of summarization (one-sentence summary) that helps students to encapsulate the general ideas into one concise sentence will be conducted after the first actual reading to enhance students' comprehension. Students are expected to be able to skim a text and identify important information in the text, to sum up the gist of the passage.
